THE POSITION
The Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) has an exciting opportunity for a talented professional to join our team as a Transportation Engineer. The MPO is looking for professional skills and abilities to complement our existing staff to ensure organizational needs are met. The core responsibilities include multimodal transportation engineering, city transportation, Complete Streets, resiliency adaptation and mitigation, and project management. The Professional Engineer may work in close coordination with municipalities, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), and others to plan, prioritize, fund, and administer transportation projects that are technically sound and supported locally, at both elected and public levels. This position supports other MPO team members, prepares reports, delivers presentations, and manages complex transportation planning projects and programs in a fast-paced and evolving environment. The position requires project management skills for in-house staff and consultants.
THE CANDIDATE
We are looking for an outstanding candidate with an interest and experience in the professional areas noted above. The ideal candidate is an experienced professional with a varied background in transportation planning and traffic engineering with technical knowledge and experience in preparing geometric design plans using AutoCAD or other acceptable standard drawing formats, conducting speed / volume count analysis, crash diagrams, traffic operationsanalysis (Synchro, Simtraffic, CORSIM, VISSIM), AutoTurn analysis, developing costs estimates, experience working at the local, regional, state, or federal levels along with strong communication skills, and experience coordinating with community interests, utility entities and other governmental agencies. The successful candidate will have broad experience and understanding of the full range of requirements to deliver a complete project from planning, prioritization, funding, design and ultimately construction. This person has a desire to grow their career with a progressive goal-oriented organization focused on expanding multimodal transportation options for the public. The successful candidate will have strong collaborative and problem-solving skills and enjoy working with multiple partners to build consensus, communicate and identify technically feasible solutions that are acceptable to the public and elected officials. This person should enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, often as part of a team. Candidates should have strong written and verbal communication skills, and a considerable amount of experience conveying technical information to the public and elected officials. The successful candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering plus four (4) years of progressive responsible experience in engineering, project management, or related work. Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job should apply. FDOT experience is desired, including knowledge of Local Agency Program (LAP). Candidates must be licensed as a Professional Engineer in Florida.
