The Greater Madison Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is looking to hire a Marketing and Communications Specialist!
The Greater Madison MPO is hiring a Marketing and Communications Specialist who is passionate about planning, developing, and implementing successful communication strategies. The position communicates and coordinates MPO activities with a variety of external audiences including individuals, community groups, residents, business leaders, elected officials, and the media. Responsibilities include public relations and customer service; designing and implementing social media, marketing, and education materials; organizing and supporting public-facing events and programming; and developing internal and external communication materials under the general supervision of higher-level professional staff. Under general supervision of the Transportation Planning Manager, work involves the exercise of independent judgment and initiative in the management of projects and activities.
This position involves professional communications and public relations work focused on multi-modal transportation and long-range planning topics, on behalf of the Greater Madison MPO and the Capital Area Regional Planning Commission (CARPC). The MPO is a regional transportation planning agency housed within the Planning Division of the City of Madison Department of Planning, Community and Economic Development. The MPO strives to provide high quality transportation for all through building regional agreement on transportation investments that balance roadway, public transit, bicycle, pedestrian and other transportation needs while supporting regional land use, economic and environmental goals.
Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years of professional experience in the development and maintenance of website and social media content, including graphics work.
Associate’s degree in Communications, Visual Communications, Event Planning, Business, Marketing, Public/Community Relations, Journalism, Urban Planning, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Community Organizing, Non-profit Development, Public Administration, Education, Graphic Design or other related field.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, Visual Communications, Event Planning, Business, Marketing, Public/Community Relations, Journalism, Urban Planning, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Community Organizing, Non-profit Development, Public Administration, Education, Graphic Design or other related field.
