GIS / Socioeconomic Analyst – The Mid-Region Council of Governments seeks a full-time staff member to join the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) as an entry to mid-level GIS / Socioeconomic Analyst.
Responsibilities:
Duties include data collection, analysis, reporting and visualization. Creating, updating, and maintaining critical datasets related to population, housing, land use, employment, and transportation. Keeping up-to-date on data sources, releases, analytical methods and best practices. Promoting inter-agency collaboration and innovation in support of the transportation planning process. Candidates are encouraged to apply if their skillset supports either Data Analysis or GIS Analysis and not necessarily both; on-the-job learning is an important part of this position.
Skills:
The ideal candidate will have experience related to desktop geographic information systems (GIS) such as ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro and / or QGIS, experience working with tabular data in Excel, and analytical skills. Preference will be given to candidates who have worked with census or demographic data, have data presentation skills, graphic design skills, and/or experience with SQL databases, including Microsoft Access or ArcGIS Enterprise. Creativity in problem-solving and a willingness to innovate (as part of a team and individually) is highly valued. The above skills may be replaced in part by a passion for data and a desire to learn.
Qualifications:
Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in planning, geography, economics, mathematics, or a related field. Master’s Degree or at least two (2) years of professional experience related to the responsibilities and skills listed above is preferred.
Salary / Benefits:
Salary will be commensurate with experience and is within the range of $45,760 – $54,080 annually. This position offers full benefits including health, dental and vision coverage, vacation and sick leave, group life insurance and enrollment in the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) of New Mexico. Additional benefits are optional including flexible spending plans and gym memberships. Due to the collaborative nature of the MPO staff this position does not offer a remote option.
