The Battle Creek Area Transportation Study (BCATS), serving the Battle Creek, Michigan urbanized area as the Metropolitan Planning Organization, is seeking an Executive Director. The BCATS Executive Director promotes the transportation vision for the greater Battle Creek urbanized area and engages in activities in support of that vision. This position leads, oversees, and directs the day-to-day operations of BCATS within the programs, policies, and guidelines adopted by the BCATS Policy Committee, as well as the requirements of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the USDOT relative to metropolitan planning organizations. The Executive Director facilitates and promotes a collaborative work environment within BCATS, as well as with local governmental agencies, MDOT, FHWA and FTA, and the public. This position reports directly to the BCATS Policy Committee. This is a full-time, salaried position with weekday (M-F) office hours at a staff office located in the City of Springfield, Michigan. There may also be evening meetings, travel, and events outside of the regular hours schedule.
Required education and experience: bachelor’s degree in transportation planning, urban planning, civil engineering, public administration, or a related field AND five years of progressively responsible transportation planning experience, including two to three years of supervisory experience. A master’s degree in an appropriate field may substitute for two years of required planning experience, at the discretion of BCATS.
